Title: Drinker problem
Post by: Jane-M on May 02, 2009, 18:30
I invested in a 30l top loading drinker on tripod legs - you know the sort. You are supposed to adjust the flow into the drinking bowl by gently wiggling the plastic thingy with the ball in.  If you haven't seen these you now think I'm barmy.

Problem is - if I set it to drip, it stops dripping at some time unknown to me and the water bowl gets empty (yes there is still gallons of water in the tank). Why does its drip stop dripping? I have set it to run now, but I expect that the bowl will overflow and during the night 30l of water will run away.

Does anyone have one of these doozies and can advise me?

It sounds like the drip mechanism isn't allowing air to bubble through the spigot resulting in a vacuum being formed in the 'air-pocket'. This would stop the flow of water because you'd have a negative pressure within your barrel and a positive pressure outside. You could loosen the filling cap to fix the problem.

I have no idea what a 30l top loading drinker looks like so I may be talking rubbish.

Could you not take it back, and swap it! Thats what i would do if possible. :)
