hi! i took banti to vet who seemed very experienced with poultry.  she said had eye infection but airways and sac? all clear, gave a sachet of powder antibiotic to give in water but said if banti doesnt improve in 5 days she may have viral infection and best thing put her down. Apparently the laying of a soft shelled egg can indicate a more serious illness has set in,Anyway she is no worse at the moment and thankyou everyone for your moral support!!

It sounds like she has given her baytril  ;). It's available in powder form aswell as tablets. I hope she improves.

Sending speedy healing wishes for your little chuck. x

thats good news! I hope the antibiotics work soon and she gets better. Chicken anatomy is fascinating, they dont have lungs as such, but air sacs, rather prehistoric :)

... but very efficient.  The way the air circulates they get fresh air when the breath out as well as in.

the banti had to be put down this am as she was so much worse and was suffering, dont really know what was the matter b ut she appeared to be having difficulty breathing this morning.  ive now got my only other little banti by herself and cant get her a companian yet till imsure she wont go down with anything - she doesnt seem strssed about being alone at the moment so fingers crossed. thanks to everyone that gave me advice.
