it seems like alliums are getting  more popular for the home gardener so we have decided to have a go at growing alliums I know there part of the onion family and I've already ask for some advise on feeding onions on grow your own but not sure how to tackle growing alliums

do they need free draining compost mix especially if there planted in tubs and feeding that's another question and is there anything one needs to do to keep them overwinter

if your  growing alliums can you give us some advise as alliums are a new think for us

I just grow mine in the border, with no special attention apart from a general feed in spring for the whole bed. I've lost some in the drought last year though, so will have to buy some replacements. Miss seeing them ...

Ours are in their second year after planting.   They were magnificent the first year, but something is eating them this year.  The stem looks as if it has been half stripped away and the flowers haven't opened properly.

Do they have any known pests?  Snails?
