Title: How many chickens in this house.
Post by: pennsylvania planters on December 07, 2008, 19:37
i am thinking of buying an arc chicken house, the sleeping nest measures 630mm by 488mm (24inches by 19 inches) it is 630 high.
Is this enough area for 2 chucks, (it also comes with a decent size run).
Any replies will be greatly appreciated,
Many thanks.

Hi, the boxes are for laying eggs really and not for sleeping though you'll find some will sleep in the boxes it's not a good ideas since they'll poo in there making the eggs messy. Many chooks like to perch (many will not too) does the ark come with a perch? One nest box is easily enough for upto 3 hens.
How big is the run? Some are tiny and unless you move the ark daily you'll find the grass will soon disappear!

A square foot is the minimum recommended house space so that should house 4-5 chooks. You need a minimum of a metre square per bird run space which is usually the limiting factor for many of us.

Thanks folks, it does have perches and an egg laying part.
The run is okay, but i will be building a larger one myself.
Thanks again.
