Huge Gherkins!
« on: July 26, 2009, 21:39 »
Hiya everyone,

Ive been picking today and found a huge gherkin which i missed about 10inch long and 4 inch thick! Could i follow the usual gherkin recipes and cut this one up? Would it go soggy in the vinegar?

cheers

steve

Now Steve - you're just boasting!!

I have the same trouble with my courgettes - turn your back for a day or two and then whoppas - too big to stuff and stick in the oven. :(

As for cutting up a gherkin - I haven't a clue but I am sure someone will come along with a sensible suggestion!!  ;)
Never keep your wish-bone where your back-bone ought to be.

I used to buy gherkin slices in vinegar and loved them ::) I suppose you would be best to eat the sliced ones as soon as they're ready....cos when you buy them you eat them straight away...you don't know how long they have been in the pickling vinegar do you? :)

It may be a bit wet and seedy at that size . Eat it as a cucumber and save some seed ? :)
