Does anyone have a tried and tested recipe for pickling gherkins?

Also is there and alternative to pickling them

If you want a pickle recipe for cucumbers and gherkins, this is my favourite from on here. It is a salty, rather than a sweet pickle and very moreish

As an alternative, try this one of mine, that Val put on the main site. Its half salad/half relish and should work well with gherkins. It doesn't keep long, but that shouldn't be a problem as its very easy to eat up

I pickle mine in a brine solution. Really easy, probably more so than with vinegar.
A heaped tablespoon of salt in 2 litres of filtered water. Add to gherkins.
That's it! Best to have a way of keeping them under the surface to minimise mold and make sure there is a way for the gas that will form to escape.
