Title: which seeds to plant now
Post by: art guy on July 28, 2009, 11:52
hi,

l'm a lead volunteer on a community allotment project, running weekly sessions. we didn't start until very late this year and the ground has taken time to 'reclaim'!! however we have and are creating new beds, currently digging them over and over and over!! l know that it is too late to plant most seeds now, but wondered if anyone could point out what seeds can be planted out now and over the next month or so?

thanks

Welcome to the fourms.

Have a look at this page on the main site for a month by month guide. A good place to start.

Were new to this too - Ive put in beetroot, spring onions and cabbage in the last month. Ive got some broad beans (aqua dulce) to go in in september, and Im on the look out for some mayfair cauliflower seeds and eskimo carrot seeds to have a go at overwinter. Youll probably be able to pick up loads of plants really cheap at garden centres at the moment too, but its getting pretty late for some of these to be ready,

Good luck!!

thanks, and yes have been trying to pick up some bargains, but not had much luck  :( . think l'm going to concentrate on getting the ground prepared for next year, suffering really bad on our set of allotments with diseases as well, so a good fresh preparation and clean out over winter might be a good idea!!!
