Title: ENCOURAGING BROODYNESS
Post by: jonandjen16 on July 11, 2008, 15:24
after our  recent poor hatching experience 1 chick out of 5 eggs ( 2 she broke, 1 we found dead and 1 we assume not fertile) . we would like to try again. if we bought some of these fake eggs (http://ascott.biz/acatalog/Hen-Nest-Egg-PY29.html) and put them in one of the nest boxes would this encourage a hen to go broody. thanks jon and jeN

I don't know to be honest.

I know people use fake eggs to keep them broody while they wait for fertile eggs to arrive. So I suppose it could help to instigate broodiness  :?
It'd be worth a try anyway wouldn't it?

Good luck

I always put extra eggs in the nest to start them off

It's worked for me but then I always end up with more broodies than I want, then have to get more fertile eggs for them to sit
