Having had a cuddle with one of my hens this afternoon, when I came back into teh house I started to itch a bit.  I then noticed some little crawling things on my arm....HORROR!
On closer inspection of the hens I have found what look like tiny grains of sand with a little head  on them crawling about.  One in particular had rather a lot of them!!
They are very pale brown - almost sand coloured and when you squash them there is no colour residude.  I'm guessing some sort of lice? 
Never had this before - all hens are perfectly healthy and laying very well.

Any advice on what to use on them and the hen house....

Use frontline on the hens - a short squirt if you have the spray in between the shoulder blades on her back. Thoroughly clean the coup, spray poultry shield all over and then use diatom.

I agree, frontline (we used the drops for cats, 2 drops for a small chicken and 3 or 4 for a large chickens). It works wonders

Could I just pop on and ask a question about the Frontline please.......
I have 3 exbatts and have had them for about a month now.  They are doing really well and am at present worming them and would like to do the Frontline thing as a just in case (haven't seen any sign of nasty lice yet).  My question is, as they are quite small birds would it be best if I left it for another month or do you think they'll be fine with a quick squirt between the shoulder blades?? They appear to be in good health and nearly all their feathers are back already..
