That's the great thing about this forum we all have different views which luckily everybody seems to respect.

To be honest I have despatched hens and pigeons etc but I don't like doing it.

And certainly think if people have any doubt about getting "it" right they need to see a vet, I've seen some truly awful pics on the 'net about how to despatch a hen. Muntjac wrote a brilliant piece about doing it right.
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

I use similar digestive remedies specifically designed for poultry.

Avipro

and

Magic probiotic

They both contain probiotic organisms.  Similar to those in live yoghurt,  very good for digestive system, especially after antibiotic treatment.  But good for hens at any time.  Like live yoghurt is for us  :D

I am pleased to say that after a few weeks of treatment she's now back to normal. If you read my posting the symtoms are above in this thread.

The treatment consisted of natural yogurt, baby food, Carrs intrilink(natural product used by rabbit breeders to aid the condition of the gut), cider vinigar in the water along with some greens.

Just a quick word to the "where was the vet brigade".  The reason was, last visit resulted in 3 injections, a guess into what the problem was and having to watch the hen go down hill.

My advice to anyone with a sick hen is to try your own treatments first and get advice from others on the internet/or other poultry keepers.
