Mango Chutney Ooops
« on: July 26, 2009, 21:56 »
Oooops indeed!!!  I have been sooo lucking forward to making this, as soon as I saw it in the book that I think I lost control of my mind???

I brought some mixed spices and read that this had to go into a muslin bag   Then realised it should have been mixed Pickling spices bit of a size difference there

Then I realised I'd forgotten to buy the apples ::)

Then I got so excited after preping the mango and apple that I added ALL the ingredients.... including the sugar and put it all in the pan
Too late so I just stired and let it simmer all together...then remembered I hadn't put the ginger in ::)

Well it turned out ok I think??? it's in jars now waiting to be ready in october ???  It's HOT!!!!
What do I do with the muslin and pickling spices do I just throw them away????

Nah, they'll keep for your next bout of pickling or summat  :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Just a thought - did you already use the spices and muslin?

I assumed they hadn't been used - I'm sure someone will know the answer if you've used them once already

1/ The pickling spices are usually in a jar and I presume that you've not used them!
2/ The muslin will be fine if you wash it thorougly.
3/ It's a recipe. I'm sure the end result will be OK ::) ::) ::)
4/ Not sure what to do with the mixed spices. Unless they've cost a lot, I'd tend to get rid of them or use shortly.

I've chucked the pickling spices as I used them eventually in the recipe
You have to laugh really.
Nevermind I'll see how I get on with the raspberry jam later

I think what the Duck was getting at with the pickling spice was can it be used more that once?? I said to her ( been the cheep skate that I am ) just rince them under the tap and put them on a baking tray in the oven to dry out and reuse them another time. Normally I wouldnt suggest this but the smell of them was just as strong as when they went in and they were very firm. Just an idea?? sorry
I may take my time.....but i'll get there in the end.
