Please can you help me identify this chicken?
« on: March 27, 2009, 18:19 »
In the local market today we saw a lovely couple of chickens but have failed to identify them, they were white with black edging to their feathers; think of someone whose hair is snowy white but who has, until recently been dying it jet black, it only needs one more trim at the hairdressers before it is completely white.  Please can someone tell me what type of chicken they are and are they good for eggs, meat or both???   :)

Thank you in advance chicken experts.

Carolyn  :)

Thanks for the photo Grannie- it had the white with black edging like on the neck of yours but it was like that all over, not just the neck.  Also if it is a light sussex are they meat or egg birds, please?? :)

They're meant to be a dual purpose bird - mine are pretty large and heavy anyway!

Light Sussex pure breed are dual purpose, but if you get a L.S. hybrid, it is bred for egg production only and are usually skin and bone.

More like it - but the gaffer reckons that's not quite right, I'll try to go again next week and photograph it.  Thanks for all the help.
