ummm, also, how often do you feed them?  do you feed them twice a day, once when you let them out, and then when you shut them in at night??

Hi Tetley, If you pop along to your local Terre de sud or Gamme Verre you can get all your supplies quite cheaply. If you are going to get hens then you need a bag of Pondeuse (means food for laying hens), a bag of Oyster shell and,  I always buy mine big sacks of Melange Basse Cour. It has corn and all sorts of grain and stuff in it and the chooks love it. The whitey and red plastic feeders and drinkers are cheap and adequate but buy the big ones as once youve started with all this you will be hooked        Have fun  I leave my feeders full all the time, actually my feeder is an alluminium one that cost about 25 euros and you fill it up and just release food gradually (i.e. when it gets low) and that way they have some food all the time. I mix all the feed together and give mine lettuce etc for treats.
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most!!

Thanks jellyhead, I am going to leave going to the shops till tomorrow, as I don't want to drive all that way and then find they are shut on a Monday....you know how it is
Thankyou SO much for the name of feed.
I have just given him some grated carrot, and some sweetcorn and bread.
Lovely day, I shall go for a nice long walk instead of the shops  :D
thanks again
