Rhubarb jam in a tefal jam maker
« on: May 12, 2013, 18:26 »
Ok so doing a batch now, have done the extraction but my book lists another 40 mins on top for cooking time. This seems slightly ott plus it doesn't say add in the paddle which I have done.

Any urgent help available  ???

Were huh I am mad, could smell burning with two mins to go so fished it out and tested, tried some and although no-one could taste a burning flavour I am mad. What do I do with it, cool and see how it tastes or ditch. I was going to do two batches.

Probably too late to offer advice, but you've lost nothing by keeping it and seeing how it turns out - you can always bin it anyway at that point, all you've got to do is wash the jars again?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Second batch is on now, five mins less just worried about the set as the first isn't a hard set, it's fine but not as set as some I make.

Blooming rhubarb  ::) blooming hubby for picking it  ::)

I've spent this afternoon doing rhubarb / date / raisin chutney that looks decidedly liquid, rhubarb muffins, and a rhubarb 'hot cake' (it's gone cold now) which is basically a flat pie with rhubarb and sugar between two layers of pastry.

And I still have a lot left ....

Oh I give up, the first batch is set but dark caramel colour, taste fine but I am just not happy with it.

The second has a lovely colour but is runny still. I'll keep future rhubarb in a crumble I think.  ::)
