My early purple sprouting broccoli is forming a head in the centre of the plant. How large do I let this grow before cutting? Will other heads appear?

Cut it off when it's still tight and purple as it will turn yellow as the flowers open (still edible) Cutting off the main head makes the plant put out the side shoots we recognise more. Just keep cutting!

I agree with vietta, you need to start picking as soon as sprouts appear to encourage more growth, just like peas and beans.  I fear if you have left it to pick a crop all at once (which it sounds like from your post), there won't be much more to come before it goes to seed, but you might be in luck as things are so late this year.

I have only been picking from end of April / early May instead of March.  My 4 plants are just about coming to an end though.
