D.I.Y. bee hive?
« on: April 01, 2012, 20:11 »
Anyone have any experience of constructing a bee hive?   I have a quantity of marine ply of various thicknesses.  Just a thought, as with most plans of mice and men may come to nothing, but. .  .  .  .Cheers,     Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

I don't have experience of this (yet) but there are plans available on 'tinterweb and in various bee books (not helpful for you just now I know).

The only thing I'd say is make sure whatever wood you use is not treated with anything harmful to them and follow the plans EXACTLY - remember; if you violate bee space they will reward you with brace comb and propolis!

good luck and put your pics up when you've done it :)

Loads of plans out there. You need to decide what you want first though.

Top bar hives are easy to build, both horizontal and vertical. If this is the way that you intend to go then consider another looking at another website/forum - www.biobees.com
