home made drying cabinet
« on: January 13, 2014, 10:54 »

I would be grateful for any advice on this subject please folks, I have printed off instructions for building one of these from methods of food preservation on this site  and was wondering if by lining it with tinfoil I would cut down the drying time using a 60w bulb as stated for a cabinet 75cm x 45cm.i understand having the ventilation holes top and bottom for good air circulation but it doesn't state which way round you sit it.ie long side up like a single wardrobe or short side up ?dying to play with the power tools jane got for me at Christmas and this seems like a nice little starter project lol  :D
thanks in advance   jay & jane.

On end is the way, you need to get the rising warm air close to the food you are drying. If the food is far to one side of the bulb it will not dry as fast.
I do not think the foil will help drying much but heavy foil well glued will make it easier to wipe out .

thank you and was thinking about the cleaning side of things as well because never having seen one in action didn't really know what sort of mess to expect . .suppose it depends on the fruit or veg that you are working with
thanks again
