My peas are covered with rust
« on: August 14, 2011, 16:17 »
My peas look dreadful. They are covered with rust. My question is are the peas still ok to freeze and can I pull up and put the plant in the compost bin? What causes it? Thanks

Never heard of rust on peas  sorry.

Peas inside pods should be fine though, but I'd dispose of the plants, rather than risk spreading it around with the compost.

I am quiet new to growing and am just assuming it's rust. Do you know what else it could be?

A photo would help, but could you describe it.

Mildew is more common at this time of year, but that's more of a silvery appearance.

Could just be old age, it comes on peas much quicker at this time of year.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Ah just looked up mildew and it's the same. For future growing is there anything I can do to avoid it and is it still to compost. Thanks

Bang them in the compost.

Early sowings avoid it.
