Title: We are getting some pigs.
Post by: debih on April 05, 2010, 18:46
I am very excited.    :nowink:

We have wanted to have a go at pig keeping for a while but have never had anywhere to keep them.  Now our friends have brought a plot of land to build a house and it has about 12 acres of land with it so we are going into a piggy venture together.

We are having two Gloucester Old Spot/Berkshire X and our friends are having 3 Tamworths.   I know that theirs are coming on 18 April but we dont have a definite date yet.   We are pretty sure that it should be around the same time.

We put all the fence posts in yesterday ready for the electric fencing but arent going to do the actual fencing until next weekend when hopefully it will be dry enough to move the pig ark into place.

I know that I will have to keep reminding myself that we will be eating the end result but I am so looking forward to the whole experience.

I am soooo jealous. I am looking to move somewhere with a bit of land at the moment but prices seem to be ridiculous -  hey I will keep looking. One of my main daydreams at the moment it the idea of raising my own pigs like you. Good luck with your new venture and keep us updated! Pics would be great when they come! (Pics that is not pigs  :))

I'm really excited too - I think we are going to get some.

We have 1 acre we as yet haven't made any decisions about.

The very nice man who has rare breeds quite close to us, has invited me up to have a chat and see all the piglets through to the older girls etc. and chat about fencing housing etc.  :D :D :D
