Moving summer fruiting raspberry canes
« on: September 29, 2009, 17:37 »
I have been looking after my friends allotment this year whilst she is having her baby and she has given me free rein to move things about (within reason) and plant what I like which has been great. I will be looking after it next year aswell with more input from her too I expect as childcare allows.

One thing I would love to move are the summer fruiting raspberry canes. Due to the hard winter and some overzealous accidental pruning by her other half  :( there are only three canes left spread out over a third of the middle of the plot. I would like to move them to one edge of the plot and add more that have been offered by a fellow plot holder. I understand that they dont take well to transplanting though. Is there a best time to do this and a best method?

I couldn't find anything on this site or others that really helps.

Thanks,

Kitti
