need info on foxes
« on: March 11, 2011, 19:45 »
Hello folks ive bought some heras security fencing and going to make a good size run for the gals for when we have to leave them unattended and know that they are going to be safe. My fencing turned up and was the wrong sort that i had asked for but the gaps between the wire bars is approx 3 inches x 8 inches my question is could a fox easily get through this? Im sure you are going to say yes. ta Andy.

probably - sorry, also when you do put fencing up don't forget that foxes can dig so you will need to either bury mesh in the ground or have 12 - 18 inches at a right angle to the fence
Staffies are softer than you think.

mice and other nasties could probably take advantage as well .Cats have been known to paw through larger holes to get at chickens

Perhaps keeping the large mesh size (if it is very robust) and adding a second layer of close-weld to it would give you the strength needed to keep larger pests out and the small hole size to prvent unwanted paws and mini-pest-mice out.

Just a suggestion.  ;)

If a fox can get through my cat flap it can get through that mesh. Can you send it back?

No i cant send the mesh back, but been online to a company that deal with wire mesh and im going to line the run with this mesh as the fencing ive got the bars are very thick and would be great to tie and fix to. Also i tried to dig down as far as i could but with the ground being solid and a broken wrist its not been so easy,so ive put heavy stone around the base inside and out, just got to get some bark chippings now to fill it in otherwise the run will be a mud bath. Thankyou to all your responses, andy.
