Weeping Cherry Tree
« on: October 23, 2007, 09:06 »
I would like to plant a cherry tree in memory of a dear friend who passed away last week.

My friend Blossom had Downs Syndrome and I have looked after her for 32 years, I have many happy memories and these I will treasure .

Is there a weeping variety ?

Would this be a good time of year to plant it ?

Thanks .

Nice thought CD.  Google says : Prunus subhirtella 'Pendula'

If you can't find it, there is a weeping birch which is absolutely lovely.

That's lovely corndolly

I sometimes think that Downs Syndrome people have a gift rather than a dissability  :D

And now is the best time to plant a tree. The soil is still warm and there is time for it to settle down before real winter weather.

Container-grown trees can be planted virtually year-round.  Bare-root trees are best planted dead of winter, Dec-Mar.

Nice to see you posting again BTW

Lovely sentiment, Corndolly. I've met so many Downs people who simply brighten a room with their presence and cheerful outlook on life. Even after their death, their love and exuberance lives on. Hope you find a really nice tree for your friend.
