hiya i have just come back from my allotment
whilst weeding a chap from down the lane came and said i was wasting my time weeding wet ground as it will grow back quicker.
is this right i am a new commer to allotments and i have managed to clear one whole side and make it into four beds.
i have cabbages in one and onions and leeks in another.
i have been working o the assumptio that if weeds come up i he them of and rake over.
help am i wasting my time

If you hoe weeds and the ground is wet yes they may regrow but if you are raking off the tops then they cannot reroot only the roots will regrow hoe them often enough even these will die but the main benifit is that any goodness in the soil stays there feeding your plants not weeds hope this makes sense.

im a newcommer to the allotments and lots of people been there many years so i feel they are all offering advice with good intentions.
but i never know which is right . :?

well, you know where we are if you want another 7 sets of opinions too!!!

word of advice re wet soil - if it's wet enough to stick to your boots, keep off the soil as you'll compact it and do more harm than good.  Just take it as a sign that you're supposed to be indoors with a cup of tea instead  :wink:
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I know some 'older' allotment members often pass on duff information to newbies 'cos they think it's funny!!  :evil:
