Weeds or Flowers?
« on: May 18, 2013, 19:57 »
I planted up a flowerbed last year, most of my seedlings got devoured by slugs so not expecting grand things from it but now theres loads of plants I don't recognize, I did plant some dark pink aubricha (thats not spelt right I'm sure) in the wall bed but I didn't think it would survive after those slugs last year, I'm opening my garden at our village open gardens in 3 weeks so don't want to embarrase my garden by nurturing weeds thinking their flowers (again...)

the 2nd one looks like a foxglove, the blue flowered one is Forget-me-not, the pinky mauve looks like Aubretia and the last one looks like Solomon's seal foliage but one leaflet looks as if it has a tendril? if so it isn't SS.

I'll start you off with pic 1, 3 and 4 being the same weed.

The last picture looks like Jacobs Ladder - if it is, it's a herb but not sure if it's edible. I have some growing by my greenhouse.
The first picture, my garden is riddled in it - don't know what it is but I find it everywhere and I pull it up! :D
The forgetme not in Pic 4 is lovely but will run rampant if allowed to.
Agree with pic 2 being a fox glove - I have several of these too.
Not sure about pics 3 and 5

Not sure what #3 is, but 5 looks like purple rock cress (arabis)

For some reason, #1 reminds me of balsam.

#1 looks like a type of willow herb (there are many types but I get a lot of what you've pictured and it's very hard to get rid of - I like to think I always pull it out before it flowers but I suspect I'm kidding myself!)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
