Swede, is it easy?
When I took over my plot earlier this Year, I was told that neither turnips nor swedes would grow on it. I had a go anyway and, as I hadn't time to prepare the ground for seeds, I grew them in one of those plastic trays with lots of individual 'potlets' until they were big enough to plant out. I have had a very reasonable crop of both, though the turnips came to an end with all that rain in August which made them rot very quickly. The swedes are still fine though. I don't know what that proves but I will probably sow all my seed that way next year - the plants are easy to look after that way and I don't have the problem of trying to weed tiny seedlings.

I think you hit problems if you've sown them in pots and you're not incredibly careful when you plant them out. They don't like the disturbance. I planted mine straight outside last March and they've done well, but more tennis ball sized than standard swede size. Have to keep some back for Burns Night.

try a mix of 75% potash and 25% sulphate of ammonia  ie 3 oz of potash to 1 oz of ammonia spread that on a full row of maybe 20 ft or so not per plant
still alive /............

done that last year with runner beans gets a bit embarrassing asking for empty toilet rolls, everyone thinks your into blue peter  :D

so when would he sow the parsnips graham the same time as you would outside or a month earlier if you have a greenhouse.
