You didn't scam me - ha!
« on: July 24, 2018, 14:54 »
Just got a voicemail phone call from BT saying my broadband contract will end this afternoon and to press button 1 or 2 to respond. I noted in my diary that I needed to renew my contract towards the end of June but …? Contacted BT and my contract was up for renewal but the very nice girl told me this was a scam and I blooming thought so! Renewed contract and got a discount, plus info for dates when I need to renew it again and also when to renew my line rental. Just thought I'd let you know in case anyone's had a similar thing.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Not yet but we did get an interseting text from our bank saying our account has been frozen and to phone this number ???

So I phoned the number on the statement and it turned out to be true, they froze it because of suspicous activity

Apparently there was a number of transactions over £100 in one day  Then I remembered that we have our cuz's coming from Canada next week and I have been buying tickets for footy matches, punk gigs etc  8)
Oh well we got it sorted in the end

I used to get a lot of calls allegedly from BT, I used to blacklist them.  Now I have changed to Sky and a voice asks who the caller is and tells me, then I can act appropriately.   You've just got to be so careful, they're all put there waiting to get us    No stress  -  stay cool  8)  Mrs Bouquet

Slimy so and so's!!

We have had some calls from a London number claiming that Mrs tenhens has been involved in a car accident, she tells them that she doesn't own a car.  They challenge this response by asking how she gets about  " I use the bus , of course "  this usually causes them to hang up.
we also rescue rabbits and guinea pigs, grow own veg

I was getting the 'your broadband will be cut off today' automated calls for about a week.

when they didn't get any success, they have now upped their game to 'this is HMRC and you are being taken to court.....press 1 etc"...

sadly, some must react to these calls, otherwise they would have stopped years ago.  its a shame BT cannot stop them as they come from overseas, apparently.

We have one of those BT phones with nuisance call-blocker.

Works a treat now I've saved the numbers I often use... I still make mistakes getting the sequence wrong though!

But I often get spam emails saying 'my account will be cancelled'! They automatically get spotted by Gmail, and binned!

Anything of this nature that is true will have been conveyed by letter or email, though it's always worth checking with the firm you are dealing with beforehand. It's the people who are not savvy about these sort of things that I feel sorry for as it must be frightening to get one of these calls, especially if you're elderly and/or live on your own.
