Maturing Red Wine
« on: October 19, 2008, 19:00 »
Hi all

I have just bottled the wine from my "kit" and it says i should store them on their side in the dark and cold. Do they have to be stored on their side? Dont really fancy laying them on their side in case they leak!!!

Cheers
Digi

I never store mine on their side.  I know you are supposed to, but once you stand them up, if there is a little sediment in them. it all gets mixed up in teh bottle.  I stroe them stadning up and tip them gently so as not to disturb the sediment anymore than I have to.

I think the idea of laying them on their side is to keep the cork moit otherwise it could leak, but I only use screw top bottles now.
