Hypothyroidism diagnosed
«

indie has finally been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. It's taken mulitple blood tests, a constant ear infection ( 5th lot of antibiotics to start today!!) and a second opinion to get here. But tablets start tonight
. Has anyone else had experience of this in a dog? I gather it's going to take weeks to make a difference.

No, not a dog, but I have experience of this with me.

Not a dog -- a cat.
Glad there is a diagnosis now at least

I've just Gurgled that one and I have ALL the symptoms. Must slide it in front of the old quack on my next visit!
Cheers, Tony.

In a cat.
After taking the tablets, small difference after a few days, within a week a big difference.
The cat was always unsettled, up and down, after a few days quieter and after a week, very chilled.

Well its been nearly 6 weeks, his thyroid test was within normal limits - yay. I was advised the dose could reduce if he was over active etc. He is not - he's back to normal - its taken a year since his major illness but even his ears are clearing up. His skin is flaky still but I am hopeful. We have spent a fortune on him but I have to say the insurance company have paid up - much more than I ever thought so all in all things are looking up

He finally got his ear infection cleared up, had a benign growth removed from his leg in July but now......his skin and fur are poorly again. Fur falling out. And very itchy flaky skin,so special shampoo and increased thyroxine. He gets very cold if he's wet but he's fine thank you for asking. Still very loving and naughty at time and loves his new pet hottie which has sheep on it to help his furless state
Sorry to take so long responding, been off grid a while
