Title: Elderflower cordial
Post by: slowef on January 12, 2008, 08:50
Hi, last year we had lots of Elderflowers on our land but due to sheer amount of jobs I had no time to use them.  I want to get the recipe ready now so I am prepared as they don't last long in flower.

I know you need to smell them to make sure you don't have the "wee" flavoured ones :? I have found about 10 of those big glass demijohns in an outbuilding I can clean and sterilise if they are any good to use.

So whats the best recipe you have tried and tested for me please :)

We've still got about 24 (750ml) bottles of pasteurised cordial left from last year.

Save those demijohns for something nice and alcoholic.

Due to a shortage of sweet smelling flowers in suitable locations (the good ones beside main roads and those smelling of pee beside footpaths) I took a load of cuttings in the autumn to grow at the plot.

Thanks, How long will it keep then?

I don't drink so the demi's won't be getting alchohol in them might put them on freecycle for those who do as I have no use for them.

I look forward to having a go at this as I love the elderflower taste

If pasteurised in one of these, until elderflower time this year:

Thats either apple or blackberry juice being done above, which again should last us until August this year.
