Help - how to dry garlic??
« on: July 03, 2009, 09:41 »
Where do people put their garlic to dry please? Outside in the sun it will get wet when the rain comes. Inside it will go mouldy if there is not enough air circulation.

I've just taken these, draped them on a couple of wire coat hangers, and hung them up in the garage against the wall. Concerned about air circulation though.

Any thoughts please? I was thinking of rigging up a sort of washing line affair in the garage - ie a piece of string and some pegs.

Growing salad leaves isn't rocket science.

John refers to drying garlic in his latest newsletter, I seem to recall. Didn't go a bundle on it. Too hot apparently.

I guess that John will be upset if you dry your garlic in his newsletter.  :D :D

If it's that hot then there's no hope for tomatoes then.

Well they seem to be doing ok. But with all this going on in there, it might be too humid.....

Definitely don't dry them in a greenhouse, it really is too humid and hot. Garlic needs air around the individual heads and away from all moisture sources and direct sunlight. Best to hang it on a line in a non-leaky shed, garage or basement. Or, on sheets of screening in a food dryer if you have one.
