Making Raised Beds
« on: June 07, 2013, 19:55 »
Im making raised beds with lengths of decking board.  For the corner posts will it be sufficient to use 30cm batons that are about 1 inch by 2 inch?

I'd go for 2x2 myself, it's a bit more sturdy. 30cm should be ok to hold it in place - on my clay I've tended to go a tad longer as otherwise I would be digging deeper than the stakes to turn and fluff up the soil.

We used 2 x 2 and left them 45 cm for the deck board beds.  We left them 60 cm for the scaffold board beds.

Agree with Surbie and Eblana. It's a lot of weight, especially when wet... :)

OK thanks for the advice. Shame cos I have a load of battons that are about 1 x 2!

That's what Brian does when he wants thicker wood, sticks and screws 2 together!
