feeding chilli/pepper plnts
« on: June 27, 2010, 21:23 »
hello all
1st time i have grown chili and pepper plants currently they are on my balcony in the flower and small bud stage.
my question is what is the best way to feed them i have read that this needs to be done when they reach this stage.
i only have 4 plants in pots so to what kind of ratio would i mix liquid tomato feed ( i understand this is ok for peppers and chilis )
also saw this
"Container or grow-bag plants require a weekly feed with either seaweed extract or NPK fertiliser (15-15-15) and water as required."

many thanks

I normally feed at pod stage with slightly stronger strength tomato feed every other week, although I believe the collective wisdom is 1/2 strength weekly.

In recent years I've found feeding weekly leaves the compost too wet.

Just needed that info as the office chilli competition is getting very competitive and the MD is in 4th place my to his dismay. I will now add to the rules the allowance to feed as Lardman suggests. Mine is trailing a poor last :( although I did have the one left over that was the smallest and weakest looking so no surprise.

I use tomato feed (same strength) and feed at same time as the tomatoes(7dys). The plant we overwintered now has more than 40 chillies and more than 20 flowers (it is in a 6" pot and is 12" tall). We keep the compost moist at all times although most people would say to let the leaves start drooping before watering. I started another 22 plants this year...at this rate we'll be knee deep in peppers and chillies!!
