Title: when to plant shallots?

I got quite a few shallot set in the shed but not to sure as when to plant them.
When is the best time?

The traditional time is the shortest day ( Dec 22nd, I think ). Then they are harvested on the longest day ( June 22nd ). Having said that, I would get them in as soon as the conditions are right. :D
