Tomato varieties
« on: August 25, 2010, 13:39 »
Grew from seed this year first time ever and had a real sucess, enough plants to give some away and a bumper crop, however, although the Gardeners Delight are full of flavour I grew Alicante as well and these are quite insipid. What are the best varieties to grow for flavour, I grow in a greenhouse and outside.

I tried a very large plum variety called Amish. Originates from the Amish community and available from the Real Seed Co.

The most tastiest tom I've tried. I need to support it better in the future as the weight of the trusses bent the plants over in the greenhouse.
Top tip for camping....don't go.

My very favourite is Red Alert. It's deliciously sweet, tough as old boots, looks after itself, and has always given me a very big crop.

Another vote for Amish Paste. I have grown them for 4 years , big toms with top taste raw or cooked  they are also easy to skin with few seeds.
I also grew Gardeners Delight and Sungold both good tasting toms but second placed to Amish in our household .
