Identification please
« on: May 25, 2014, 15:45 »
Hi all,
This isn't mine so this is the only picture I have.
The chap seems to think it's a chilli, I'm pretty sure it's not.

I thought that it might be from the basil family. I am only going on the appearance of the "front facing" leaves.

Any thoughts please

If it was growing on my plot I'd call it a weed  ::)

Looks like a Willow Herb (weed) to me.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

There's a lot of different willow herbs, most of which I manage to grow. The one shown looks a lot like this one:

If I had only known... I binned some very healthy looking Codlins and Cream a couple of days ago. You could have had them for your collection  :nowink:

When we were on holiday in Scotland last year my OH (not a knowledgeable gardener) saw some rose-bay willow herb growing at the side of a road and thought it looked very attractive and just right for our garden.   I soon put him right on that score although it did take a number of loud discussions.  :nowink:

I believe that DD wins the plant identification prize - a packet of 50 Willowherb seeds he can sow on his plot between now and September.

Looks like a well nurtured, and extremely healthy weed - rosebay willow herb.
