have prepared a carrot area on the lottie but not sure what to put with the soil i know not to use manure or compost what about fertalizer? chicken manure? fb&b? help!

From the little I know, I'd say it sounds like you know what you're talking about    Are you going to plant anything along side them like onions or French Marigolds to ward off the carrot fly when you're thinning them out?  Not sure how warm your soil is or even if this matters but someone's told us to put fleece over ours.  We're no experts mind you, as we've never grown them      sorry!

Whats your soil like? Carrots like sandy rather than heavy clay. Is it stony? they're not keen on them either.. If it were me I'd dig in a little fb&b..but I tend to do that with most things! Also depends on what was planted there last year.

Compost is fine for carrots. I grow carrots in pots and tubs filled with compost every year wth no problems.
