Hi, I've just completed my Brassica Cage for this winter/next year 24' x 12', I've added lime over the last couple of months. I shall be putting in some Spring Cabbage, do any of you have any suggestions as to what else I could plant now for next year. Had the plot 18 months, unfortunatley illness has until now, prevented me from completing the cage. Thankyou

Can you get hold of some winter cauli plants?
-
Or winter cabbage or kale or brussel plants.

Thanks, thought that was about it, didn't get around to sowing any so I'm going to pop out and see if I can find any plants in the local garden centres.
-
Is it Whitefly proof as they love all brassicas
-
Hi Nash, Hopefully it'll keep the whitefly out I've used debris netting for the sides and a larger netting for on top !
-
It won't keep whitefly out, only enviromesh does that, but as long as the mesh is smaller than 7mm, it should keep cabbage white butterflies out so no caterpillars ;)

We have one cage that is 2m tall, to house the tallest brassicas that take the longest to grow ie sprouts and PSB. We can then get inside easily to weed and feed.
The others that have cabbages and other shorter ones are blue pipe and mesh constructions, where I can just roll the mesh off for maintenance.
First year we have had the biggun, and the plants are over waist high  :D

Hi, forgot to add the cage is also 6' high, so will be easy to get in and plant/harvest/weed/pest control !! I'll have to take my chances with Whitefly, although having said that the smaller cage we used this year was luckily Whitefly free. It was just the young rabbit that sneaked underneath that was the problem. I'm right in thinking the Whitefly is the small flies that fly up if you brush against a plant hosting them ?

Yes, that's right >:( :D

Yes, that's right >:( :D
The ones that make you go phu.. phu...phu as you try not to breathe them in ???

I lost all of my winter and spring brassiccas to root fly >:( gave DT Brown a look and now have Caulis, Kale, PSB and cabbage settling nicely. Also got some white sprouting too so there is plenty to get in if you hurry!
