I have noticed a few stems of this plant springing up on the plot and just wondering what it is... it's the brown/red one and I think there's a dead stem of it, on the left in the 2nd pic, from last year which is just over a foot high...

any ideas?

does it attract pollinating insets and do you think it'll be OK to put into a pot? - it's in my veg bed at the moment so needs moving (and possibly giving away to someone (the only non-edibles allowed on my plot are there to attract good beasties    ))

They really don't like moving  make sure it doesn't get planted any deeper than it is when replanted.

It may not flower for a couple of years either 

But if it's in the way............................................

do you think it would sulk less if moved when dormant?  it's at the end of a row so I could leave it for now if it would make a difference...

It will probably sulk less if moved when dormant.  Will be in flower very soon so why not leave it for now and see if you like the colour before deciding.

The main issue with peonies is planting too deep as MoS says
