Title: Cheap bean sprouts
Post by: Oscar Too on May 08, 2007, 16:13
Thompson and Morgan's 150gm packets of mung beans for sprouting retail at about GBP2.50.

Sainsbury's 500gm packets of mung beans retail at about GBP1.50 and have given 100 percent germination!

Much better than the mung beans I bought from the local Indian shop - very poor germination.

Well impressed.

We get 500g for 87p from a local wholefood shop and they al sprout. T&M sprouting seeds are a rip-off.

You can make cheaper/larger (than T&M's) seed sprouters out of those stacking plastic lunch boxes (Wlikos) and a few minutes with a cordless drill.

I use the Rotho stacking lunchboxes beacause they will stack up (to give a serving of sprouts from a layer a day) safely in the airing cupboard. Use punnets for mustard & cress and green sprouts, but wouldn't risk stacking them amongst the linen.
