Make lovely little air pockets in the compost bin and go towards you brown content.
-
also make lovelt pots for sowing beans in ,and stuff them with a little sawdust seal with wax then top up with more sawdust or flakes . pour a little white spirit in before you pour in wax to seal top ,,,,,, plastic airtight bag ,you got firelighters, no sawdust to chuck away ,,,, now thats frugal hehehe

Ive got access to a much wider and longer toilet roll holders. What i thought I do with them, as the soil on the lottie tends to be on the heavy side , is to partly put them in the ground and then fill them with fine compost for carrots.Might also help to keep the carrot fly off. Will this work?
-
dont see why not matey, you can try it and report back on it
-
You order stuff for the elephant lavs I suppose - Silver8?
-
How tall are they Silver? They reckon its gotta be over 2ft to fool the carrot fly.
you'd have some nice long carrots wouldn't you though????

I used toilet roll middles to grow my sweetcorn in 2 years back. I got a load of little fungi growing on them & only about 25% gemination!
-
toilet rolls if they get to wet willl rot and the milky mould takes ya plants as well mate
-
Apparently the mould comes from the glue on the rolls. I use the paper pots as they are quick and simple to make. The loo rolls i use for my leeks to keep the ground from backfilling too quickly.
-
stood upright in a seed tray, filled with compost, and parsnips sown in them in the greehouse.
better germination than at the lottie ( well, for me anyway )
just plant the whole thing in the ground when its time.
lurvlly :D

If you water only from the bottom, sparingly and never ever the top, the rolls last long enough - without fungi- until they're planted into the ground, up to the very top. Otherwise, more fungus starts up outside.
-
flatten them both ways .fold and then fold again splitting the distance , they become square and fit lovley in a tray
-
That's right - took me ages to realise that. Much easier to collect as well.
-
im sure someone on here told me that cos i didnt know that lolo ,,,
