what tree is this please
« on: May 06, 2011, 21:11 »
during last year, I have been throw fruits cores such as apple, pear, peach, plum etc into an area in my garden as compost for a cucumber plant. early this year, begining of March, I believe some seeds from these cores started growing out, some of them are easy to see as they come out of soil with their little shell of the seed, which I think are apples or pears trees. but one of them amused me by out growing everyone else and I could not identify what tree is it. I put two pictures here and hope some one can identify it.

thanks

I'm certain its a sunflower, and at this rate I'd say you're in with a shout at winning the tallest sunflower competition this year :-)

It's a sunflower for sure.

I was weeding last spring and dug out a fairly heathy looking seedling - different to the other weeds I'd seen. So I decided to replant it somewhere else, out of the way, just to see what it was. In a few weeks it had rocketed up and turned out to be a sunflower, just short of 6'. Glad I moved it.

The seed had just blown in or been dropped by a bird. Maybe the same for yours, or perhaps from a bird feeder in a nearby garden.

Um, you haven't thrown away jerusalem artichokes, or JA bits have you? I agree it does look like a sunflower, but then again it might be a JA which is very similar
