Yes, I'm afraid so  :(

When the weather cools down a bit, it's not too late to plant some more seeds though  :)

With each new season I sow and plant fewer and more often than last time - and I can see that this year I will still end up putting some on the compost heap.
It just shows how ridiculous are some of those telly programs where you see rows and rows of lettuce, cabbage etc all at the same stage. What can they possibly do with them?

It's only a waste if you dont know anyone with chooks or ducks - they love 'em! Maybe you could do a swap? I "pay" our chicken consultant in eggs and she furnishes us with bolted crops. Nic.

Most of my lettuce is ok, but for some reason some look more like towers rather than round, why is that?

You may find that those are about to give you a present.

A flower!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Are they mini gem or similar because they are more compact and look taller rather than round?

I have those as well as butterhead and too planted bit much but its keeping the rest of the family in lettuce so no waste  ;)

my little gem are ok as are my marvel but did notice some of the outer leaves are bit slimey.have pulled them off because there not full size yet am sure its the weather . I just pull them when there ready wether i need them or not and give them away to friends and family , still plenty for us. not putting any more seed in now as should ahve enough to keep me going til september .will start afresh next year and think about sucession a bit more!!!

it is a shame when things get past their best but if you dig them in or compost them or feed to ducks and chooks then at least you are getting something for the penny or so each seed cost. And of course the experience of growing something so sucessfully and a lesson learnt about little and often.
