Competition #19 - New Year, New Start
« on: January 02, 2012, 23:58 »
After quite a break, back by popular demand, a photo competition!

Since it's a new year, photographs that relate to starting off. It could be a new plot, a new chicken coop or anything that encapsulates the idea of a fresh start like new shoots. Don't forget to put a description with your photo explaining why you think it's about a new start.

Prize - a copy of one of our books or I'll find you an alternative from my bookshelves if you prefer

This competition will run until Sunday 5th February with a week for voting after that.

The simple rules:

  • You can enter one photograph into the competition which should be no more than 640 pixels wide.
  • It can be anything you want that expresses the idea of newness
  • It should be accompanied by a short title and some description.
  • The competition is open to all "Full Members"  i.e. those with more than 50 posts.
  • At the closing date we will add a poll for members to vote on and the most popular photo will be the winner.
  • The winners will receive a prize as listed above and the winning photo may be placed in a permanent photo gallery along with the best runners up.
  • Closing Date for Entries: Sunday 5th February 2012 when voting will be allowed by all full members for a week.

Full rules can be found Here

My offering - New Shoot's last post reminded me that I had this picture, taken last January at Dunham Massey in their winter garden. It was a lovely cold, crisp day and the snowdrops were looking lovely! Definately a good start to any growing season  :)

The germination of my show onions is always the signal to me that the new season is underway.

Sets a low standard and fails to achieve it.

Life awakens to find a new girl on the plot! But the trusty old Rhubarb is lighting the way, ever the old faithful, so forgiving and true.

After welcoming in 2012,  this ladybird is getting a head start on the new season.  Taken last week at Henley-in-Arden.

Mine is a New Start to a new day.  Had to be quick though as it soon disappeared and is never the same again.   :D

New start to the seasons here, spring flowers.  We were lucky there were any left, we saw a man and his grand daughter walking along with two huge bunches of them in their hands!  We were out walking, along the Via Verde, a disused railway line, which is now a 35km walking/cycling path. These flowers were at the Puerto Serrano end, or beginning, depending on the way you were walking! For us it was the start!!

Hehe, new start to my day! Chicken to table in 5mins, a good start to both of our days!
A new yea always reminds me of the annual struggle to get into shape, poached eggs begin to appear instead of fried and Bacon vanishes totally!

Not really on the right lines but i saw it made me think of this comp when i got up hehe.

This photo was taken today of these lovely daffodils at Axbridge, a village on the southern slopes of the Mendip Hills, an area renowned for strawberry growing.

They always flower at the very start of the new year in early January, but this winter the first blooms appeared at Christmas!

I`m left handed, what`s your excuse?

This sums up my new start for the year, after just over 12 months of migraines which get so bad I pass out and feeling totally oomphless I really felt like I needed to do more to occupy myself so out went the plastic walk in greenhouse that let me get the gardening bug and over the last few days we built this  :D

I really would have loved a bigger one but we just haven't got the space!

Just the gravel floor, a couple of flags, staging and I've got a huuuuge stash of seeds ready and it's all so exciting
