Moving Rhubarb
« on: March 06, 2020, 14:24 »
We have just been govin the go ahead to move plots. I want to take some of our really good rhubard with us. Its a really early variety. Will it stand a divide and move this weekend do you think?

Rhubarb is very hardy, but cover the top over with soil if the new spot is prone to frost.
I moved some in 30degrees and replanted it 2 weeks later

You have to move so you've little choice and if your moving it you might as well go all out and divide it.

Take loads of the soil around it to preserve roots and add manure all around it. Rhubarb loves manure so put loads underneath, all around and on top and that'll help it. Think a manure nest.

Make sure it's properly watered all year, and I would suggest you don't take too much of a harvest from it next year - to give it a year to recover.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I move my established currants and rhubarb from my plot to my new house and they have all done really well, the rhubarb will probably need a rest from picking this year.
