Try http://uk.freecycle.org/ I got loads from here plus charity shops but I got most of them by struggling on the bus trying to carry a few home, some local people saw me and I was given 30 odd from several different people, once word got out I made wine people started offering me allsorts of equipment so try not to spend money on stuff.

On the cheap or even better free eqyipment front . I picked up a plastic container the other day like a jerrycan but about half the size . It's probably from one of the takeaways so I'll give it a good clean out and see what happens nice and clean when I found it anyway someone had dumped it by the plastic recycle bin. It's great what you find there and if you want free bottles don't be afraid to ask at sports clubs and the like they just throw 'em away.

I was at Tesco the other week and someone had dumped a load of bottles then left all the empty crates there real beer crates magic

Fruit squash from the super markets comes in gallon plastic food grade bottles, you can drill a hole in the top and fit an airlock (Wilkinsons and cheap) in those with a grommet like Celtic Eagle says or a dab of clear silicone, use sterilising solution to get rid of the smell of squash. Perfectly adequate.
