Setting onions off
« on: January 27, 2022, 17:04 »
Quick question…..I grew seed onions for the first time last year and sowed them in mid spring.
I decided to get going earlier this year and multi-sowed some then put them in an unheated bedroom.
Nothing happened…..I doubt it is bad seed since there are two packs/types from two different suppliers ….do onions need to be in the warmth to germinate?
If that is the case, am I ok to just put them in a warmer place (they have been sitting with no movement for over 3 weeks) or am I better off re-sowing?
Sorry - that’s two questions :))
Thanks

Unheated room may be a bit too cool for them to germinate.
Mine germinated in the c/heated living room, but I moved them away from the window each night, to stop them getting chilled.
This year's onion growing thread is here, if you want to join in :)
