I have grown different varieties of potatoes in the past but this year I am trying Golden Wonder in a raised bed. They are growing so quickly I am having to earth them up every day. anyone come across this before?
-
No, but I do remember Golden Wonder crisps

Hi Moosley- welcome to the forums. You'll get used to the comedians!
I'm experimenting with about 12 different varieties of spud this year, Golden Wonder being one of them. Not tried them before, but can't say I've noticed much difference in the haulm growth rate.

On a more serious note..................
I grew GW a few years ago, a couple of times, but they always got bad scab.
Hope you have better luck

p.s. Given a choice I'd go for Cheese & Onion

Personally I prefer salt & vinegar!

Some of mine have not been earthed up at all yet and the foliage is shooting up. Maybe GW does have huge foliage, some varieties do, such as Cara. Some folks support the foliage with canes and string but I just let it all hang out :D
I shall be covering with earth when I get chance if the rain ever ruddy stops. I noticed some of my spuds have fantastic foliage, like bright green and red, they look like coleus :D

Late means late cropping not late starting ;)

I am growing them as my very last crop, my local nursery had them clearly marked as 'second' mains lol

i often wondered how they grew the really thin flat potatoes to make crisps...........peeling them must be a nightmare..........

I think that's what Senrab meant, late main crop. Second is used for earlies, Sen, so it's a bit confusing. :)

I know... I was merely commenting on how my local nursery confused me lol
