We previously had 2 white bantam leghorns and unfortunately we lost one. We have recently purchased 2 10 week old bantam barred wynadottes. They are free to roam the garden and apart from the odd pecking, which we expected, with the leghorn we have had no real problems.
However, getting them into the coop at night is proving to be a nightmare. The first night we waited for the leghorn to get in and settle and we introduced them and there was mayhem so we found them a separate box to put them in - they have never roosted. Now it is a struggle to even get them into the box - we have blacked out all the light in the area but they get so hyper at night. Can anybody help us first of all to get them used to going into their own box and then how long after do we need to leave it to introduce them to the main coop? Thanks

Ideally have them running side by side but separately for two or three weeks, and then introduce at night once your loner has become very sleepy/trancelike. I have not had problems doing it this way. :)

If you are struggling to get the newbies to go into their box, leave a small torch on in there. They don't like entering dark places, especially if they are new to them, but will happily gravitate towards a light. You can remove it once they are in and settled :)
