Hi I'm Caroline, We have just taken on an allotment plot and am wondering where to start. The council are going to turn it all over for me but then what.

Any advice or tips would be great.

Have a good look round the website - quite a few people have asked similar questions recently and the answers might be useful for you. This is approaching high summer so think about stuff you can plant now to see some results straight away - salad crops, beans and 'early' varieties of things which will mature quite quickly.
Try to work out what sort of soil you have - clay, sandy or what. The easiest is to ask your plot neighbours, in my experience they are very generous with advice, plants etc.
Have a look at some books - try your local library. Grow Your Own Vegetables by Joy Larkom is a good read and quite cheap.
Have a go and let us know how you get on. There's people much more knowledgeable than me here who can answer your questions.

Try the information section  and the links lead to some good web sites as well.

I always say that when you get 3 gardeners together you will get 4 opinions. As you go on you will get a feel for what works best for you on your land and in your micro-climate.
