Wheelbarrow wheel
« on: June 06, 2013, 21:26 »
While using my fairly new wheelbarrow yesterday it became apparent that I have somehow managed to get a flat tyre :(

Can I buy replacement tyres or wheels and here would I look does anyone know?

you should be able to take the wheel to a tyre place and get it fixed, alternatively you can use some of the emergency foam stuff.

If the puncture is in the tread area, then the foam or slime filler should work.  Mine was in the valve so it wouldn't work, so it says on the tin.

I have no idea where the puncture is and not sure I really fancy trying to find it by submerging it in water etc. once I work out how to get it off I might just try s tyre place, thanks!

I had a hell of a time trying to change a wheelbarrow inner tube - maybe it was just me  in the end I went to B&Q and bought a solid rubber wheel - its been great!

we shred all our woody hedge and light tree prunings, and use them on the paths at our plot - one time we had two wheelbarrow flats in a week (two barrows) and I realised it was cuz of recent pyracanther shreddings... there's an auto repair center near us that is very reasonable - fixed them both for a couple of bob.

I usually take mine to the local garage and they install the special rubber plugs wherever the hole is. For a few dollars in cash, it's worth the trip.

Last time I looked B&Q charge £15.59 for a wheel and Greenfingers were doing a galvanised wheelbarrow (with a wheel) on offer for £19.99 so it's worth shopping around. the spray foam was about £6

Hi,
Sorry this is off topic...I'm from Canada too!  I live in the UK now but I grew up in Alberta.  I just wanted to say hi to a fellow Canadian!  :)

Wheelbarrow wheels are frequently the same as some child buggies.

I agree that the slime can work, and I've known friends get their buggy punctures repaired at bike shops.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

hi before trying to repair tyre make sure its not a euro tyre theyve got the valve moulded on to the tyre so theres no inner tube once they go down theyre beggars to re inflate  tie a piece of cord round middle of tyre twist with screwdriver to force outer walls against rim blow up put tyre fixer in before twisting cord or you ll find it impossible otherwise  jezza

For future reference, if buying a replacement wheel, beware there are different spindle sizes.
